My Story with Perimenopause
I am The Posh Outlaw. I have survived a lot of hard things. But last year, my own body surprised me.
We need to talk about something most people keep secret. It is called perimenopause. This is the time before a woman’s body stops having a period.
Nobody I know talks about this. Because of that, I was not ready. I am writing this so the women who come after me will know what to expect. There should be no shame in aging.
The False Start
A few years ago, my best friend and I thought we were going through “the change” together. We both stopped having our periods.
It turns out, she was pregnant with my niece! I had just skipped a month. We laughed about it then, but last year, the real symptoms started.
The Long Months of Bleeding
Last year was very scary. I started bleeding in July. It did not stop until October. Then, it started again in November and lasted until January.
It was a long time. I felt weak and tired. I had to go to the Emergency Room (ER) five times. I also went to the doctor five times. I felt like I lived at the hospital.
Two Things That Helped
Every woman is different, but I want to share two things that helped me.
- TXA (Tranexamic Acid): This is a medicine that helps your blood clot. It helps stop the heavy flow. It made a big difference for me.
- Manual Vacuum Extraction: This sounds scary, and I will be honest—it was painful and frightening. But it worked. The doctors used a small tool to clear my uterus. It was fast and highly effective.
Why I am Telling You This
In the past, women were told to stay quiet about their bodies. I am an “Outlaw” because I don’t follow those old, quiet rules.
I want to stop the stigma. Aging is a part of life. If we talk about it, we can help each other. We can be prepared.
If you are a mom or a young woman reading this, know that you are not alone. Your body is changing, and it is okay to ask for help.
Stay strong and let’s keep talking!
