We all know that scene in Pretty Woman. Julia Roberts goes into a fancy shop, and the sales ladies are mean to her because of what she is wearing. Later, she goes back looking “Posh” and tells them: “Big mistake. Huge!”

It’s a funny movie, but that stuff still happens today.

The Outlaw Truth: Just Show Up When I was younger, I didn’t understand my brain. Sometimes I needed more sleep, or I would wake up late. I used to be so embarrassed. But I learned a secret: Show up anyway.

If you are late for a training or a workshop, don’t stay home! Go anyway. Most people understand that “life happens.” You can always ask for the notes after it’s over. (Just don’t do this for a job interview or a client meeting—be on time for those!)

The Posh Truth: Appearance is a Tool People act like looks don’t matter, but they do. It changes how people treat you.

I once gave a girl a ride to a job interview at a hair salon. She showed up at my car in sweats and Uggs. I knew right then she wouldn’t get the job. In the beauty world, you have to look the part!

If you want the job, you have to dress for the job.

Why We Play the Game As an “Outlaw,” I don’t like silly rules. But as someone who is “Posh,” I know that looking good is like wearing armor.

  • It makes people listen to you.
  • It shows you respect yourself.
  • It shows you respect the person you are meeting.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money to look “Posh.” You just have to be intentional. Put on the ribbons, polish the boots, and show the world you are ready to lead.

4. The “Posh Outlaw” Appearance Check

Before you leave the house for something important, ask yourself these 3 things:

  1. The Vibe Check: Does what I’m wearing match the place I’m going? (No sweats at the salon!)
  2. The Detail Check: Are my clothes clean? Are my “ribbons” straight?
  3. The “Outlaw” Check: If I’m running 10 minutes late, am I still going to show up with my head held high? (The answer is YES!)
